Sampler 5 hdc puff st

This pattern came without much instruction.   It inspired me to try it on my own.   I used crochet hook H  and your generic 4-ply yarn for sample. I am thinking a bigger hook would show the pattern a little better.   Not  a pattern for tight crocheters!  All st should be longer and loose or you will find yourself taking hand stretch breaks!

Make a predetermined amount of stitches for your chain.

Make a puff st consisting of 5 hdc in first ch.  *(ch 1,  sk next ch, make puff st).  Repeat * ending with puff st.  ch 1, turn.

Under the last st that closed the puff from the previous row,  start puff st putting 5 hdc on hook  but do not close.  YO hook,  5 hdc into next closing st of puff from previous row.

YO,  pull through first puff,  then second puff, leaving 1 st on hook.   YO and pull through that st.  Still one st on hook. ch 1

In that closing st, hook under two strands of closing st, which are the division between the two puff st,  yo, draw up, now 2 st on hook, yo, draw through to make 1 st on hook.

hook indicates where to draw up for puff st

*yo, 5 hdc into the st just made that pulled the 2 puff st together. It will look like a pyramid of three puff st.

Yo, puff st in next closing st of  puff from previous row.

YO  draw through all puff st.  YO  and close.  Hook under 2 strands of closing st, draw up and now 2 on hook.  YO  draw through and close. 1 st on hook.

repeat * to end of row making last puff in the closing st of previous row ending with just closing the st.

                                                        ch 1 --turn!

YO, 5 hdc in last st made
YO, insert hook into back of flat puff st from previous row, making another puff st.   (two incomplete puffs on hook)

YO draw through all closing the sts, ch1.

**Hook under 2 strands of st drawing puff together, YO, pull up, 2 st on hook, YO, draw through to make  1 st on hook. YO, 5 hdc in st just made to draw puffs together (the pyramid look) YO,  hook into back of  flat puff st from previous row,   5 hdc, YO through all st, YO close, ch 1.  repeat ** across row. ch 1 turn.  Repeat pattern.

This is to the best of my knowledge.   Any other suggestions welcome.
You can start crocheting in a round  once you get a base established.
When you come to the end of the row, do not turn.   After ch1, start your pyramid with inserting your hook into the last st made and make 5 hdc in it.  Then turning work to your right (st worked will be on your left)   make 5 hdc into the next sp you see  working down the outside edge of previous row.

The first time you do this you will have to work across your base chain.   Simply use the ch st that the original puffs were made in.   5 hdc on hook, 5 hdc in that st to make your 2 puffs to pull together.
This uses so much yarn, that in this endevour, I went through almost a whole skein.   So not to have left-overs,  I just decided on a point of stopping and then began hit and miss with sc all around, and then added a border until I ended up at the tail of the yarn.

It has been a long time being busy with other things, but I have managed to  make a few more things.   I made this for my oldest daughter who took dance for 15 years.
Dancing Doily

Then I spotted this when going through Pintrest, and followed backwards until I came upon the original post.  Unfortunately,  there were lots of pictures, but the woman did it by the seat of her pants.   So I played and played until I came up with a pattern that resembled hers.   I see that it was taking up almost the whole skein of yarn, so I just continued on and made up my own edging and finishing.  I hate having a little bit of left over yarn!

black and gold sweater

I finally finished my black and gold sweater before the Steelers/Browns game. As usual, I found a basic pattern and turned it into my own. The original wasn't as long and had a little different collar. I also used smaller needles on the cuff for tightness, and larger needles on the body and collar for softness.

Black and Gold Sweater

my version

SIZES: 10 (12-14-16-18)
16 oz base color A
8 oz contrast color B
Needles 7, 11 both double pointed and circular
BODY:
With size 7 circular, cast on 46(48-50-54-56)
Place marker so you have even number of stitches between front and back
k1, p1 with A for 4”. in the round, moving markers, keeping even stitches between markers
Change to B work two rows
Change to A work 4 rows.
Repeat last two rows three times.
Work 4 rows A
Start main body in k in the round for 20” or desired length to underarm
ARMHOLES:
Bind off 3 stitches one side of marker, work across to other marker, TURN
This is where it divides off for front.
Bind off 3 stitches , p across.
Dec 1 st each armhole edge every other row for 3 (3-3-4-4) times
So you have 34(36-38-40-42) sts.
Work even until 7” (7 ¼- 71/2- 7 ¾-8”) from beginning armhole.
SHOULDERS:
K 2 together 3 times each armhole once
Then 3 (3-4-4-5) sts at each armhole edge once so you have
22 (24-24-26-26) sts.
Bind off
FRONT:
You have already been working front with the back. You have bound off the back and have stitches left on the circular needle. You stopped at the armhole.
ARMHOLES AND NECK:
Bind off 3 sts at beg of next row, work until there are 9 (9-10-11-13) sts on the right sided needle
Bind off 24 (26-28-28-28) sts
Continue across last stitches.
TURN
Bind off 3 sts beg row P across to neckline
Work only these stitches on this side of bind off neckline.
TURN
Dec. 1 st at armhole edge every other row 3 (3-3- 4 - 5) times
Until you have 6 (6-7-7-8) sts on the needle.
Work even until same length as back to shoulders.
Bind off 3 sts at each armhole edge once, then with one st, bind off the rest.
Attach yarn to begin on p side of other armhole, do the same but reverse instructions to correlate with the pattern
End binding off
SLEEVES:
Smaller double pointed needles
cast on 24(24-26-26-28) sts placing marker to know beginning stitch
Work k1 p1 ribbing as follows
A 4 rows
B 2 rows
Three times, end A 4 rows
Change to larger double pointed needles increasing 4 sts across row28(28-30-30-32)
Increase 1 st each side of marker every 6th row 4 (5-5-6-6) times
36(38-40-42-44)
Work at least 16” or desired length to under arm, changing to circular needles when needed.
CAP:
K2 together 3 times work across to marker, TURN change back to dble point needle
P2 together 3 times p across
Dec 1 st each edge every k row 9(10-11-12-13) times until you have 12 sts, then bind off
COLLAR:
With largest circular needle and using A, starting at bottom of right front neck, pick up and k 1 st in each row to shoulder, 1 st in each bound off st on back of neck, 1 st in each row to bottom of left front neck.
DO NOT JOIN
Work back and forth in k1 p1 ribbing using same stripe pattern as beginning body, ending A 4 rows.
Bind off loosely.

Fold right top corner to center, sew from center out collar and neck line.
left top corner to center. Sew from center out collar and neck line.
Fold out.
Stitch the sleeves in, tuck in the yarn strands.
